These profiles are necessary to compensate for the thermal expansion of the concrete slabs and also to restrict their movement during natural shrinkage of the building or ground movements under the foundation. Today in Russia profiles for expansion joints of the required quality and completeness are practically not produced, and it is very expensive and time-consuming to import them from Europe. It is no coincidence that some contractors fill the space between the concrete slabs of buildings with ordinary foam instead of deformation profiles.
